Petite visite to the ER...

I guess the KMC intercultural experience striked me so much the first time that I felt like going back regularly just in case I would be out of interesting things to say over these days.

This time it's a small pain in the top of my leg that started to raise concerns in my little head and after two days of sleeping badly due to a consequential lower back pain, I decided to pay my visit to Dr. Rand again. As usual, that balance decided to lie to me and over-value my real weight on earth. I just can't feel thinner than before and weigh 4 more kgs, something is just wrong. Especially since many people, not just me, got the same scary face when reading its final verdict.

On Monday afternoon, I thus had the pleasure to meet with the nicest nurse ever who already remembered my name. These filipinos must be born with a client services chip in place of their heart, their kindness and sense of being at your disposition remain beyond any expectations you might have!

After describing briefly my symptoms, where in France the doctor would have told me "déshabillez-vous" and without any other forms of judgement I would have had to remain completely naked in front of whomever, male or female, where in Colombia they would have made me go through a small room to leave my clothes and wear the specific little dress ready for me to cover myself, in KSA they ask you "Would you agree to take of your pants behind the curtain so that I can see your leg?"How do you want a doctor to examine you if you don't undress??? Anyway...
Dr. Rand was pleased to inform me that my knee seemed perfect and that I must have hurt a muscle, nothing that could not be eased through painkillers. That said, I took the opportunity to show her some little marks that started to appear on my upper leg. Nothing important really but while I am at it, I might as well... She reassured me, probably a small allergy due to the increase of temperature, wait and see the evolution for two days and come back if it gets worse.

Listo! Without having to pay anything (apparently it's taken from your paycheck every month), I take my medication and go back to work. Obviously, my crazy week rhythm did not allow to follow Dr. Rand's advice and soon enough my upper leg and back got itchy and turned reddish. Oops, I guess I waited too long and since we are Friday, no medical appointment available, only option: ER.

The good thing is that ER here is quite a decent location to get to, there is hardly anyone there and it doesn't feel as difficult a situation as in many other cities. I didn't understand much of the questions asked by the intern who welcomed me but at least he put me in the end of the doctor. The latter,  discovering that I will require to show him my upper leg, is quite embarrassed and asks for a woman to come in. I am interfering and mention I don't really care, just hope (thinking out-loud now) that it wasn't inappropriate. But what's the point, in any case he will have to look at it and the presence of a girl won't change anything at all.

Verdict? I have the evolution of the chickenpox virus: shingles. Apparently the chickenpox virus liked me so much that it remained in my welcoming body for the past 30 years and decided to reveal itself now, trying to spread over my legs through some active nerves. Supposedly, it usually happens on the right side of our body (thank you google search) but my little friend the virus decided to make an exception with me and choose the left part. But it was kind enough to only select hidden usual part so I guess I should be thankful.

If my body wanted to impose me a break, it would not have chosen a better way since I do not feel like exposing my reddish skin to the sun nor to the water. Let's see if it allows me to go running tomorrow or play squash at least!!!
